Please keep in mind that some of these are unique or one-of-a-kind handmade plush dolls. Supplies may be limited for certain designs and some handmade plush dolls may become seasonal and/or retired, so order yours today.

What exactly is an Otakumal?

Otakumals are Japanese Inspired Handmade Plush Dolls sewn by Stefanie Shall. All the dolls are handmade from fleece (unless otherwise noted), and are incredibly soft & snuggly!

Please note: Otakumals are generally safe for children but do contain small parts/fabric paint and are not recommended for young ones 3 and under.

What the heck does the name Otakumals mean?

The word Otakumals comes from two sources, namely the Japanese word “otaku” meaning obsessed Anime fan (or any kind of fan). The term is closely related to the word “geek” or “nerd”, and is used as a somewhat derogatory meaning in Japanese culture. However, American’s have embraced the word Otaku into their society as an honorific term, and any kind of extreme Anime fan always considers themselves Otaku. The ending term “mals” comes from animals, which most of the designs are based from (though most of the Otakumals with the stitched hearts are from original designs).
